TABLE MANNERS TIP

REMEMBER: WE USE GOOD MANNERS TO MAKE PEOPLE COMFORTABLE AND AT EASE. Always wash your hands before you eat to get rid of germs on your hands. Come to the table looking clean.

  • We sit up straight and stay seated.

  • We use polite words such as “Please”, “Thank You”, “May I?”, “You’re Welcome”.

  • No toys, books, and electronic devices at the dinner table.

  • We thank the cook/chef.

  • Start eating when given permission or when everyone else starts.

  • Don’t reach for things across the table, ask someone politely, say “Please Pass” instead of trying to reach.

  • We don’t make rude noises or talk about things that will make people feel awkward. We chew with our mouth closed.

  • Don’t talk with food in your mouth.

  • We drink when we don’t have food in our mouth.

  • Don’t make rude or bad comments about the food.

  • Keep your elbows off the table while eating.

  • Ask to be excused when finished, or if you need to leave the table during the meal, say “May I be excused?” When at home or in someone else’s home, offer to help clear the table.
